Violin created at UPTEC wins international design award

The IDEIA.M design studio was honored with an iF Design Award 2018, one of the world’s most prestigious awards in this area. The design of the AVA Royale violin has been spotlighted among 6,000 applications from 54 countries, in the Product / Leisure category.

The instrument produced by IDEIA.M, a studio based at the UPTEC – Science and Technology Park of University of Porto, received the recognition of a jury composed of 63 international specialists. The violin stands for innovative design and cutting edge engineering in the construction of musical instruments.

Created by AVA, the brand of musical instruments, the violin in carbon fiber presents unique characteristics in style and behaviour, being the level of sound equal to the one of the violins of wood. “This instrument has received very positive evaluations by musicians, which show the good quality of the instrument. It is an example of an object, whose design remained crystallized during centuries, that can evolve without losing its identity”. says Júlio Martins, CEO of IDEIA.M.

BMW, Ferrari and Apple are just a few companies that, along with IDEIA.M, have been distinguished in this edition of the iF Design Award. For the promoter of the company this distinction “is a seal of quality, a validation of the work we have developed, which shows that we are among the best in the world in the product design area.”

Since 1953, iF International Forum Design GmbH, the oldest independent design organization in the world, recognizes the best projects in the world in this area. The awards ceremony took place in March at the BMW headquarters in Munich, Germany.
