GESTURE is a new space within Our Thriving Tribe Project (OTT) where arts professionals were commissioned to consider entrepreneurship from the perspective of the arts in Ireland and respond with a gesture.
Each Gesture was digitally documented: this documentation became part of Our Thriving Tribes research materials. Each unique Gesture remained with the arts professional. The commissioned documentation from GESTURE will be exhibited online, shared through the OTT & AHEH projects digital platforms and published in the Our Thriving Tribe publication.
Andrea Fitzpatrick is an artist, arts manager and curator, with a strong interest in collaboration and overlapping disciplines.
In 2015 she created the Chimera Art and Science programme to create a space for experimentation and collaboration between art and science. She curated a programme which included six month artist residencies, a student project with the Centre for Creative Arts and Media (CCAM) of the Galway Mayo Institute of Technology and an artist talk given by Andy Gracie. The two artists in residence, Siobhan McGibbon and Joanna Hopkins, worked in the CÚRAM laboratory in the National University of Ireland, Galway. Andrea curated ‘The Future is Here’ exhibition which featured work by Siobhan McGibbon and Joanna Hopkins which was created during their residencies. The programme was funded through Science Foundation Ireland’s Discover award scheme.
The Art and Science Programme became part of CÚRAM’s Public Engagement Programme in 2016. In the same year, Andrea worked with the socially engaged artist, Joanna McGlynn and her School of Alternative Possibilities (SOAP). SOAP’s residency culminated in a public participatory event. Since then Andrea has created links between the engaged artists, researchers and communities of interest. Cleary Connolly have worked with the programme since 2017 and Karen Conway began working with CÚRAM researchers in 2019. In 2021, Andrea will work with the experimental architect, Rachel Armstrong, and visual artist, Carol Anne Connolly, for the Moore Institute’s European Capital of Culture Legacy project.
