What did you study and where did you study ?
I studied Translation and Interpreting at the University of Granada with French as my first foreign language. I obtained my degree as a certified French translator during my studies. Afterwards, I did a master’s degree in Intercultural Communication, Public Service Interpreting and Translation at the University of Alcalá (Madrid).
What job do you have now?
I am a cofounder of Voze, a translation and interpreting agency. Currently, I am the manager of the interpreting area, of the commercial department and of quality and training.
What does your job involve?
My job is to coordinate the interpreters of Voze and to supervise the management of the telephone interpreting service and the one for NGOs. I am also responsible for creating the initial and continuous training program for the team, for supervising the recruitment of new interpreters and for creating and applying quality assessment systems in Voze. Finally, I am in charge of attracting new clients and carrying out commercial and marketing activities.
How does your job enable you to be creative?
The most creative part of my work consists, on the one hand, of the design of the training program for the team and, on the other hand, of creating marketing campaigns.
Describe the pathway you took to get from university to your current role
While I was doing my master’s degree at the University of Alcalá, I interned in a telephone interpreting company. Thanks to the experience gained there, once I finished university, I worked as a telephone interpreter for a while. Besides, I collaborated in several research projects at the department of Modern Philology in Alcalá, where I was hired as a technical assistant and mediator for the research project “Mediación interlingüística y cultural” (Interlinguistic and cultural mediation). After that period, I started working as a freelance sworn translator and as an administrator at the international department of a travel assistance company. In that moment, I decided to found Voze together with my associate, beginning my journey as an entrepreneur. I had to combine my work fopr other companies with my project until 2016, when I could finally devote myself entirely to my company.
What is the one thing you wish you could go back and tell yourself as a student?
That all the professional decisions I ever make will have a positive outcome in the future, because, although in the given moment I might believe they are not related to my dream job, they will be very important for my learning and they will take me to where I am today.
What do you enjoy about what you do?
What I enjoy most about my job is coordinating an ever-growing team of people and watching our project grow every day.
